"I am one of those who wishes the best for the national team, which is ready to be world champion, we shall fight to hold the cup", explained Messi during an interview with TyC Sports.

"Being world champions shall be different from anything else", he added.

In addition to this, Messi made reference to the relationship with his room mate Juan Sebastián Verón and acknowledged that he was present "in the most difficult moments".

As for the group unity, the Argentine star player said that it was related to the "tough criticism" received during the play offs. “We had it very tough, that made us stronger and drew us closer. The time we spent together preparing was very useful and it helped us get into the right state of mind”, he remarked.

Messi further acknowledged that Maradona had changed many things “and is now at ease working on all the details”. “The world cup was going to be difficult and we all started from scratch, we knew it was going to be different and we need to make the most of it”, he concluded.

Télam. National News Agency of Argentina. June 12, 2010. Argentina, thanks to a header by Gabriel Heinze, defeated Nigeria1-0 at its inaugural game of the South Africa World Soccer Cup at Johannesburg on Saturday, as reported by Télam.

Heinze's goal was scored at six minutes of the first half time. The Argentine team was superior at all times to Nigeria, but did not play well, according to most commentators.

Télam. National News Agency of Argentina. June 11, 2010. National squad coach Diego Maradona, has chosen the team formation which will play Nigeria tomorrow and there are no doubts as to the eleven players who shall kick of the 2010 World Cup for Argentina.

In a closed doors training session, Maradona stood on the pitch the eleven players he has been training with.

They are Romero; Jonás Gutiérrez, Demichelis, Samuel and Heinze; Mascherano; Verón and Di María; Messi, Tevez and Higuaín.

The Argentine team, as a result of a request made by FIFA, shall leave tomorrow at 1.30 pm towards Johannesburg to be two hours in advance at the Ellis Park stadium where the match will be played against the Nigerians.
