Télam. National News Agency of Argentina. May 24, 2010. Argentine coach Diego Armando Maradona has great confidence in the Argentine squad that shall enter the South Africa World Soccer Cup, despite the more limited time he had to train it, as reported by Télam. "Our players have understood that you experience the World Cup the way we are living it", said the world famed No. 10. "In 1976 we had a build up of 70 days, today we are barely 20 days away and I still don't have my full 23", he commented during a press conference.
"I want to have them all sharp. We can give anyone a good fight, because we have a good game and good players. This squad is similar to that of `86 because they have hunger for glory", Maradona added. The coach also stated that "I’m not surprised by inter striker Diego Milito`s excellent performance" by scoring Milan's two goals against Bayern Munich at the final game of the Champions League played in Madrid. And added that nevertheless, "Milito will have the same chance" as other Argentines informed strikers to earn a World Cup place.
"I am not surprised by Milito. He has had a spectacular season but then so have the others, Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Agüero", Maradona held.
"There are no first-team players and no reserves (in the squad), Milito has proved me right for picking him. Whoever is in the best form will play", the coach added. The Argentine squad is scheduled to face Canada today in a farewell match at River Plate's stadium.
"The players are all in great spirit and anxious to work towards the South Africa finals starting on June 11", added Maradona. Argentina plays in Group B, against Nigeria, South Korea and Greece.
